Let’s Talk Vacation Bible School!

Our church’s annual Vacation Bible School kids’ camp is one of the biggest events we run during the year - and also one of the most highly anticipated!

For kids and adults alike, VBS is full of exciting activities, meaningful interaction, and great memories. It is an opportunity to build friendships with kids in our neighborhoods, strengthen relationships with other members of the church, and to see God’s hand at work through our church family.

The 2016 TBC Vacation Bible School was no exception! Our theme was Olympics, in honor of the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympics, and we had a great time finding (or inventing) Olympic-themed crafts, games, decorations and songs to fit the topic.

We were thrilled to have just over 100 kids join us at VBS each night this year - a great turnout from all over the East Hartford/South Windsor area and beyond.

Each day during VBS, the kids started off with singing in the gym, led by Pastor Harper! Then each class headed off to an activity - crafts, games, Bible lesson time, or snack!

Take a look at some pictures from the VBS week!

Let the Games Begin!

What’s a basketball hoop for, if not to shoot water balloons?!

Our wonderful game crew thought up some fantastic new games for the kids this year - including water balloon launching off of basketball hoops! Game time boasted lots of water, lots of exercise, and even some Olympic medals at the end of the week.

Missionary Time

In addition to the regular class time, we had a variety of missionaries who were able to speak to the kids this year! From Ethiopia to India, Brazil to the Republic of Congo, Australia to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - we were able to hear many stories of how God has worked and is still working through His people in other lands.

Our missionary times were a big hit with everyone; the kids were fascinated with the stories and the pictures of animals, people and plants in other countries.

A huge thank you to all of the missionaries who took the time to come and share from your lives! May God continue to use you to spread His Gospel, everywhere you go. We are so grateful that He used you to speak into the lives of over 100 children during VBS!

Craft Corner

Crafts are always an exciting part of VBS! This year the older kids built boats - each person crafted their own pontoon boat made of a wooden base and milk-bottle sails.

After sanding, assembling and painting, the kids were able to race against one another on Friday.

Let’s Talk Olympics!

Every year the Truth Baptist Church VBS Skit is one of the things kids look forward to most!  At the end of each evening, we get to watch a segment of a 5-part skit that has been written to correspond with the Bible lesson for the day.

The storyline begins on Day One and wraps up on Day 5 - with many interesting characters, a few exciting slow-motion scenes and lots of laughter throughout the performances.

This year, the skit was about a TV show called “Let’s Talk Olympics”, and featured the story of Olympic runner and missionary Eric Liddell, as well as five different Olympic Sport Spotlights!

Many hands make light work!

During VBS we were really able to see the truth of that proverb.  So many TBC members were eager to help out wherever they could, and it made a difference!  While there is always much to do to prepare for the kids and make sure they are engaged and learning during the week, this program is a powerful testimony to the unity of the body of Christ when His people come together for a common purpose.  For TBC this July, our common goal was to share the Gospel with the community around us.

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.  •  Read the full chapter

Ephesians 4:1-6

Praise God for a week so full of outreach, and pray that many children and adults will choose to run the race of Faith in Jesus as a result this year’s Bible teaching!

We hope to see you next year!

A huge thank you to Cory Hoover for all the fabulous photos.
