Joseph Picard - The Barber's Heart
In honor of Independence Day 2016, Truth Baptist Church presents The Barber's Heart, a short video capturing the story of military veteran Joseph Picard.
What is the Purpose of the Church? (Following Jesus Christ, Part 2)
Scripture tells us that God plans to make disciples through the church. Jesus says in Matt. 16:16, “[I] will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (ESV). The word translated church comes from the Greek word ekklesia which means people called out from the world and to God (Strongs). God’s program to fulfill the Great Commission is to call out people from the world, called disciples, who in turn would make more disciples. This program of God is still on-going.
Who is a Disciple of Jesus Christ? (Following Jesus Christ, Part 1)
After Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, and just before He ascended into heaven, Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission. We read in Matthew 28:18-20 that He commanded that they “go into all the world and make disciples of all nations”. A significant question then is who is a disciple of Jesus Christ? Before we know if we are fulfilling Jesus’ command we must be able to understand what we are making. Many have said that Jesus Himself gave us the best definition of a disciple in Matt. 4:19. Very early in His ministry Jesus met the two brothers, Simon and Andrew, who were fishing, casting their nets by the shore into the Sea of Galilee. Jesus tells them “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” This simple statement contains three essential elements of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.
The 12 Disciples - Peter (Part 2)
A hand grasped my shoulder from behind! My knees weakened and I felt my breath escape me. John. He spoke to me with concern, “I requested to the High Priest. You may enter.” Forcing a grateful smile, I marveled at John’s composure and rounded the gatepost with him to enter the courtyard. Still I inwardly deliberated for a means to leave. The night was far spent along with my emotions and body, and dawn was nearing.
The 12 Disciples - Peter (Part 1)
I always enjoyed watching Andrew work. Everything Father taught us Andrew had taken so seriously. He was never that fast, but he rarely made mistakes. For some reason, waiting on him didn’t drive me crazy. Still I harangued him with our inside joke: “Will you be ready before or after Messiah comes?” He looked up just long enough to flip sand at me with his foot, making me cover my face and drop my own side of the net. Just then he finished, saying, “Now who’s waiting?” We both smiled.
