March 17th Update

Tuesday, March 17th

Dear Church Family,

I am grateful to God that no one we know of in our church family has gotten the virus.  As I said on Sunday, my greatest fear is that I might have it, get it, or promote activities that could pass it to others, putting people I love in jeopardy of their health and their livelihoods.  In light of the current situation, all formal church gatherings are temporarily moved online until further notice.

My son Joel, who does technology work for the Wild’s of North Carolina, introduced us to a way that we can have great online – computer, tablet, smartphone meetings – using an easy to use but very versatile video chat app called Zoom.  Keith, Melanie, Kevin, Ron and others have worked hard to figure out how to use it for all of our meetings.  This will enable us to have very clear, personal, even interactive meetings that will be personal and will protect our people.  Our mission is the same – reaching and training reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ.

Although we mourn the loss of physically meeting together for now, we hope to have even more interaction and connection than normal, and we are looking to do that through video chats, calls, texts, etc.

We are being faced with new ways to think. We have always known that “the church” is not the building or even the traditional way we come together.  While this time physically apart from each other will give us a greater appreciation for our traditional meeting place and ministries, the livestream is now the temporary worship center.  Video Chat (via Zoom or other platforms) is the temporary classroom.  Social media (Private Facebook groups or other online groups) is the temporary fellowship hall.  Individual texting and calls are the temporary lobby.  As the local church, we are a collection of sinners saved by grace, looking to creatively edify one another and share the gospel of Christ!

In light of these new opportunities, we are planning to have a livestream only service on Sunday morning.  Sunday evening we will have an online only Zoom meeting where we have the opportunity to break out into small groups using the Zoom platform for discussion and prayer.  Our Life Groups and other groups will be meeting virtually through Zoom as well.

Life Groups, Adult Bible Fellowship Groups, and Sunday Evening Tech Details:

For Life Groups and ABF Groups, your leader will send you an email with details on how to join the Zoom meeting.  For the Sunday evening service, a link to join the service will be sent via email and will also be posted on the website.

We want you to be equipped with the help you need to figure out this technology.  If you would like to join a TEST Zoom meeting to see if you can connect, we will have a test meeting at 10:00am tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and one at 6pm Wednesday evening.  Just click the link to join for the session you want to attend.  It’s easiest to use a computer or tablet, but if you don’t have a computer or tablet available, you can download the Zoom app to your phone.  If you have any trouble connecting tomorrow for the test meetings or if you need to set up a different test meeting time, please text Melanie at 860-906-6783.

Sunday Morning 10:30am Worship Service Tech Details:

The livestream can be accessed on FacebookTwitter, and YouTube 10 minutes before the start of the service.  If you have questions about accessing the livestream, please text Linda at 860-997-5454 or Melanie at 860-906-6783.

Other Opportunities:

This is a great time to join a group!  If you would like to join a Life Group or Adult Bible Fellowship group, please text  or call Kevin Tower at 860-916-5062.  If you would like to start up a virtual prayer group or Bible study with a few of your friends, you can also contact Kevin Tower.

Also, if you have any urgent needs that you would like to share with the new Care Team, you can send an email to .  The Care Team is working on setting up a texting chain for shared prayer requests.

We are working to be responsive to needs and ideas and opportunities.  If you have any questions or ideas, please contact any one of our staff.
